Your Safety & Clinic Equipment
Our patient’s safety is of paramount importance at ID+LC. All our staff participate in ongoing training for handling medical and other emergencies. Our facility is well equipped with oxy viva resuscitator and defibrillator on site. Please advise us when you attend for an appointment if you are feeling unwell.
Sciton Laser Technology
At ID+LC we have the most advanced laser treatment system imported from the USA. The Sciton® laser lends itself to many different therapeutic uses, features in-built cooling plate pain reduction technology and enables treatments to be completed in fewer sessions. If you’ve experienced laser treatment carried out on older equipment, you’ll be amazed at the improvement in comfort and results the Sciton® delivers. Visit www.sciton.com to learn more about this exciting technology.
Our operating room is fully equipped to carry out straightforward skin cancer surgery requiring local anaesthetic, such as skin grafts, flaps, and excisions. Medical chemical peels that require local anaesthetic or sedation are also performed here. We maintain the highest infection control standards with the use of a sterilisation room with autoclave and instrument tracking.
Patients of Dr Salmon with private health insurance may elect to be operated on at Wollongong Day Surgery Centre. See Fees, Private Health Insurance.
Light therapy, also known as phototherapy, is a versatile treatment used successfully for various skin conditions including psoriasis, eczema, vitiligo, and occasionally itchy skin with no known cause. Phototherapy uses artificial light delivered at high intensity in short bursts over a series of treatments. Each treatment session only takes a small amount of time and appointments are available 5 days per week.

Laser Safety Standards
In NSW there is currently no legislation that protects consumers from unskilled and untrained laser operators in the health or beauty industries.
Queensland and Western Australia require laser owners and operators to be licensed with their respective Departments of Health. To qualify for a license, owners and operators must demonstrate a minimum qualification and level of knowledge.
In Queensland, license holders for laser and IPL for hair removal must demonstrate understanding of not only laser operating procedures but “the biology, physiology, pathology, anatomy of skin, types of skin lesions, wound healing scar management and pain management” (Queensland Government, Queensland Health, Information Sheet, ‘Licensing – Use of Laser Apparatus for Hair Removal).
At ID+LC all our operators are registered nurses or doctors who have been trained to the Australian Standard AS/NZS 4173:2004, Guide to the safe use of lasers in health care.
When selecting a laser clinic it is important to ask if the operator has relevant qualifications and training, and what standard they use as their operating guidelines. Don’t take risks with unqualified operators.
At ID+LC your safety, as well as that of our staff, is a high priority. Our staff participate in regular training and education so that you can be confident you will receive treatment of the highest quality from professionals who are skilled and knowledgeable in all aspects of laser operation and dermatology.
